Labour Suspends Nationwide Strike
The organised labour union has cancelled the nationwide industrial action earlier scheduled to start on Tuesday to press home workers’ demand for a new national minimum wage. Ayuba Wabba, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, announced the suspension following the end of the last meeting of the tripartite committee set up to come up with the new minimum wage on Monday evening.

The Federal Government, on Monday, said it is not financially buoyant to be able to meet the demands of the Academy Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The government blamed the administration of late President Umaru Yar’Adua, for making what it said was bogus promises to the union during a period of oil boom.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it had been purging the voter register of some irregular registrations and had removed over 300,000 names as of last week. The commission said it will on Tuesday (today) publish the voter register across the 120,000 polling units across the nation.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo may withdraw his endorsement for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. Speaking to Independent on Sunday, the Secretary-General of the forum, Anthony Sani said Obasanjo is an inconsistent leader who “does not accommodate conviction and vision expected of a statesman of his status”.

Governor Rochas Okorocha’s chief of staff, Uche Nwosu, has said he remains the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State despite the submission of the name of Sen. Hope Uzodinma.
